Botwiki logo Botwiki

Status: currently maintained by co-founder Filnik

Botwiki is a wiki about bots for Mediawiki and especially Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia Foundation projects. It was started by me and Filnik, another Italian wikipedian (however he's active in the Italian Wikipedia while I'm active in the English Wikipedia). It was Filnik's idea, since he's a bot developer, to have a test ground where test his creations, then it evolved in a proper wiki to document and promote bot usage.

Celtiki logo CeltIKI

Status: not much edited, but online - current maintainer is Thorwald

CeltIKI is a wiki documenting a online rpg game, or a 'virtual city', as the genre would be literally translated from Italian. It started as a spin off from Old West History, see below.

World of Warcraft logo 2.4.3 WoW addons database

Status: active and maintained by me, could use a co-maintainer tho

A database of 2.4.3 compatible World of Warcraft addons. It's hard to find 2.4.3-compatible addons as most of the addon websites now offer only WOTLK/3.0.x compatible addons. Feel free to request a specific addon you need by sending me a mail, I'll find it 99% :D

Maximilian I of HabsburgCarmiglio

Status: hibernated

Carmiglio is without any doubt the project that I love more than every other. It started from my passion for World War II and "Citta Virtuali" (literally "virtual cities", a multiplayer textual rpg played in browsers popular in Italy) as a play by forum (a heavily modified phpbb version) over four years ago, I think. Then, after around a year or so (if I recall right) it was rebuilt again as proper play by chat (a virtual city is an enhanced version of the traditional play by chat) powered by GDRCD (an Italian open source engine for this kind of rpgs). We had a really good time, but then, mainly 'cause we were very strict on everything, in Italy WWII is still a debated issue, things could have escalated easily. So we were quite stressed in checking every registration, every chat log and so on. One day, the other administrator half-closed it in response to a minor issue. It never opened again. I and the other administrator discussed for quite some time over what to do, but finally we decided definitively that Carmiglio would stay closed.

However, we decided that if Carmiglio's setting would die, the "brand" would not. We really wanted to continue the experience of virtual cities. We started to list possible settings, and one easily captured our imagination: the wars between Maximilian I's Habsburg Empire and the Republic of Venice around 1500 in the Northeastern Italy. Specifically, we decided to focus on Friuli Venezia Giulia, which is where we live. The years passed, and the project still isn't finished. Every year, I tell myself that this summer will be dedicated totally to finish this dream. However, it still require a great amount of work to be finished, but, I promise you all (and myself), one day... :)

Kotf unofficial forum

Status: closed but still accessible

Was the unofficial community for Knight of the Force, a Jedi Knight modification by Osman Gunyaz aka Tim, very well known for his scamming. The forum was born as a reply to the official forums' lack of impartiality, with people criticizing the developer being banned right away and silenced, and then the forum being closed down several times. For a while, it was the only forum dedicated to this widely discussed mod. As time passed, the forum became the starting point for a alternate mod developing, "Start Wars Chronicles" now hosted at http://chronicles.lightbb.com/forum.htm. As the time passed and I left the community to pursue other projects, the forum closed.

Old West History

Status: closed, offline

This project attempted to document the history of Old West, an Italian online RPG, or 'virtual city', as the literal translation of the genre is. The rpg has since been shutdown by its owner, and the community disbanded. The rpg was online for about 5 years, and I played there for over 4. If anybody is interested in it, I can put it up again with some work.

Mozilla search plugins

Status: most still work

Made some search plugins for Firefox over the years. I think most still works, at least the ones I still use do :)

 MarcoTazio utils in Tcl/TK (Mt-tK)

Status: discontinued

Several years ago I made a couple of very simple utilities in Tcl/Tk to help me in daily tasks on Ubuntu. Sadly I lost most of the code before being able to publish it (probably not lost it, but who knows where it is), and, given I've settled on Windows for the time being, I never worked on 'em after.

NodeWiki / Wikinode

Status: closed, offline

Back in 2007 I started working on a wiki project to document the IRC network freenode, but as it was still in embrional phase, it was shut down after a long period of inactivity.

Projects to which I contribute

Botwiki logo English Wikipedia

Status: retired, but active from time to time

I've been active on the English Wikipedia since 2003, serving as Administrator and on the Bot Approval Group since 2007, as well as dishing out well over 35.000 edits. Over the years, I've mostly dedicated myself to fighting vandalism, searching for new admins, bot-related / automated editing topics, several editing tools (Vandalproof, Npwatcher) as well as generally being involved in the deletion process (especially User Categories).

Botwiki logo Lombard Wikipedia

Status: inactive

I joined the Lombard Wikipedia to help with automated deletion, at the time this Wikipedia had over 100.000 bot-generated articles - mostly in English or Catalan even, then tried to contribute to the policies, but the wiki was inactive after the burst of activity concerning the bot-generated articles, and I stopped contributing. I served as administrator during the trimming down phase and I am still available if needed, however my understanding of the various Lombard languages is rather poor, as I'm from a quite different part of Italy.

Botwiki logo Wikimedia IRC channels

Status: active

I serve as operator in the #wikipedia, #wikipedia-en, #wikipedia-lmo and #botolatori channels, as well as being active in a wide array of other channels.

Botwiki logo Wikimedia OTRS Response Team

Status: no longer part

I served as part of the Wikimedia OTRS team, answering the English and Italian queues, but didn't renewed my access following my retirement from Wikimedia projects.

Botwiki logo Fossconn Wiki

Status: project closed

I served as administrator and bureaucrat on the original FOSSCONN wiki, keeping it clear of vandals.

Botwiki logo WineHQ AppDB

Status: inactive

I am a compatibility maintainer for WinRAR and Steam on WineHQ's Application Database, but inactive given I am no longer a constant Linux (and subsequently Wine) user.

Botwiki logo Burning WoW

Status: project closed

I served as Game Master on the Frostmourne realm of Burning WoW, as private World of Warcraft server, until it was shut down.

Botwiki logo Phoenix WoW

Status: resigned and retired

I've served as Game Master on the Wintergrasp realm of Phoenix WoW, BurningWoW's successor, since its creation, until March 2009 when I resigned for a number of reasons, mainly irreconcilable difference of views on development and staff matters. I rejoined in May 2009, invited by the then new administrator Nahpalm. I stayed past his resignation and the departure of key staff members until October 2009, when I resigned due to fundamental differences with the owner on community relations, new staff recruitement and general character incompatibility. I subsequently retired as player in December 2009 and quit World of Warcraft for good.
